Asian HRC market unchanged amid holiday lull

Asian hot-rolled coil prices were unchanged on Feb. 19, as trading activity remained subdued with key regional markets still on holiday.

Platts assessed SS400 HRC of 3-mm thickness at $463/mt FOB China on Feb. 19, unchanged from Feb. 16. The same grade was assessed at $493/mt CFR Southeast Asia, unchanged over the same period.

No fresh offers were reported on the day, as most participants remained absent from the market.

A Vietnam-based trader said the market in Vietnam was expected to remain quiet until next week, when participants gradually return, and spot activity resumes.

The Indonesian market was also equally quiet, a Singapore based trader said.

Platts assessed the spot price of Q235B 5.75 mm HRC at Yuan 3,240/mt ($469/mt) ex-stock Shanghai on Feb. 19, including valuea dded tax, unchanged from Feb. 16.

Platts assessed SAE1006 HRC at $474/mt FOB China on Feb. 19, unchanged from Feb. 16. The same grade of coil was unchanged over the same period at $494/mt CFR Southeast Asia.
